Packing d-degenerate graphs

چکیده
We study packings of graphs with given maximal degree. We shall prove that the (hitherto unproved) Bollobás–Eldridge–Catlin conjecture holds in a considerably stronger form if one of the graphs is d-degenerate for d not too large: if d,∆1,∆2 ≥ 1 and n > max{40∆1 ln ∆2, 40d∆2} then a d-degenerate graph of maximal degree ∆1 and a graph of order n and maximal degree ∆2 pack. We use this result to show that, for d fixed and n large enough, one can pack n 1500d2 arbitrary d-degenerate n-vertex graphs of maximal degree at most n 1000d lnn .

On Open Packing Number of Graphs
In a graph G = (V,E), a subset $S⊂V$ is said to be an open packing set if no two vertices of S have a common neighbour in G. The maximum cardinality of an open packing set is called the open packing number and is denoted by $ρ^{o}$. This paper further studies on this parameter by obtaining some new bounds.
متن کاملPacking degenerate graphs greedily
We prove that if G is a family of graphs with at most n vertices each, with constant degeneracy, with maximum degree at most O (n/ logn), and with total number of edges at most (1 − o(1)) (n 2 ) , then G packs into the complete graph Kn. This strengthens recent results of Böttcher Hladký Piguet Taraz, Messuti Rödl Schacht, Ferber Lee Mousset, Kim Kühn Osthus Tyomkyn, and Ferber Samotij related ...
متن کاملOn almost (k-1)-degenerate (k+1)-chromatic graphs and hypergraphs
Recall that a (hyper)graph is d-degenerate if every of its nonempty subgraphs has a vertex of degree at most d. Every d-degenerate (hyper)graph is (easily) (d + 1)colorable. A (hyper)graph is almost d-degenerate if it is not d-degenerate, but every its proper subgraph is d-degenerate. In particular, if G is almost (k − 1)-degenerate, then after deleting any edge it is k-colorable. For k ≥ 2, we...
متن کاملKernelization Hardness of Connectivity Problems in d-Degenerate Graphs
A graph is d-degenerate if its every subgraph contains a vertex of degree at most d. For instance, planar graphs are 5-degenerate. Inspired by recent work by Philip, Raman and Sikdar, who have shown the existence of a polynomial kernel for DOMINATING SET in d-degenerate graphs, we investigate kernelization hardness of problems that include connectivity requirement in this class of graphs. Our m...
متن کاملLarge induced degenerate subgraphs
A graph H is d-degenerate if every subgraph of it contains a vertex of degree smaller than d. For a graph G, let ad(G) denote the maximum number of vertices of an induced d-degenerate subgraph of G. Sharp lowers bounds for %(G) in terms of the degree sequence of G are obtained, and the minimum number of edges of a graph G with n vertices and ~2(G) < m is determined precisely for all m < n.
